  1. Hihi! Newbie hobbyist artist here looking to improve. How much time do you spend (if any) on learning practice bits like gesture/figure/still life/etc. versus your fun work and commissions? Also, what helped you improve the most when you were starting out? Thanks for the awesome streams! :D

    Alrighty! Long post incoming!

    I TRY to spend at least 30min a day on gesture drawing (20 one minute gestures, and 2 five minute detailed drawings). Though lately it’s been only about 2 hours a week total (instead of 6 a week).

    I highly recommend everyone doing 10min a day of gestures before you start normal drawing. I use THIS SITE and do nude figures set to 60 seconds (under standard mode setting, classroom mode is for long sessions). If you can do 10 gestures a day, breaking down the figure and learning shapes and poses, you’ll improve amazingly.
